A new painting with a foray into mixed media.
This was a super fun piece to make. I have been experimenting with collage in various forms recently. I had collaged a piece of wood almost a year ago with no idea what to do with it. In one of late nights when inspiration randomly strikes, I pulled it out and started up this painting. I put down the lightest bit of gesso on the varnished, sealed collaged surface and began noodling with some charcoal. No idea where it would take me, this was the end result soon after.
I’m super pleased with how it turned out and will be making more like this in the future, I’m sure. The resined surface is almost impossible to photograph, so the first image is a direct scan, pre-resin. The second image gives you a sense of the glass-like resin surface after coating. Enjoy “Dissolution.”
