It’s back again!
The eighth annual Crazy 4 Cult show at Gallery 1988 has returned. After a brief stint in New York, it’s back in Los Angeles, and I’m (as always) honored to be included in the roster. For this year’s submission, I went after a piece I’ve been itching to do for years. As an avid fan of David Lynch’s 1984 imagining of Dune, I could never shake his gruesome version of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen (played by Kenneth McMillan). Cult seemed like the perfect venue to tackle this portrait, and I’m super pleased with how it turned out. The painting is a layered mix of colored inks and acrylics all suspended in various layers of gel medium on paper. This piece has my traditional resin coating and is mounted to a cradled wood panel. I’ve been enjoying experimenting with various forms of translucency and will dive deeper into this approach in the new year.
The show opens Friday, December 12 at the G1988 West location (7308 Melrose Avenue). Enjoy!
