“Urgent Need” Original Inks, Now Available.

by ncwinters on March 1, 2017

First of all, a very special thank you to everyone who recently ordered a print of “Urgent Need.”

About a third of the total prints sold out in the first hour or so, with several more orders trickling in every day. I’m proud to be able to support the ACLU with your support. As there have been several inquiries, I have put the original inks for the main bird part of the image online for purchase. The full print was done in several sections, and pieced together and colored digitally. It became quite a massive undertaking, as I’m still deciphering the best way to apply what I do to the screenprinting medium. I’m more confident with every print, and learning an avalanche of information every time.

The main inks for the bird measure 11″ x 14″ and consist of a combination of ink and some opaque gouache for some knockout/refined areas. Super happy with how it all came together, now I just have to figure out how to top this for future works! Enjoy!

“Urgent Need” New Print Release With ACLU Donation

by ncwinters on February 11, 2017

I’m very excited to finally be able to release this print.

Since the recent presidential election, I’ve struggled with finding the best way to express myself regarding the heightened sense of hostile rhetoric in our current political and social climate. I had originally planned a new print in response, based around some darker, angrier imagery. I was hoping to voice my frustration through art, something I don’t always do, as I try to keep political views out of my works for the general public. This was the time however, to make my voice heard.

Very quickly though, I realized the best way I could contribute to the conversation, and the best way to keep my head free from constant anger and resentment was to focus on compassion and inclusion. So I scrapped some of the original designs and instead focused on a new message of hope and compassion. The result is “Urgent Need” which combines imagery of rebirth in the allegory of the Phoenix, combined with unique imagery with an emphasis on compassion for the beauty of ALL life, however different from one’s own.

As part of this special release, I’m proud to be donating 20% of all profits of the sale directly to the ACLU. While I wish it could be a greater percentage, this is an experiment to see if this print and message will find resonance with buyers who are of like mind. If the sale does well, I plan on future prints with a similar theme where I can hopefully donate a much larger percentage to the ACLU and other important organizations. Together, hopefully we can all work together to make a difference through art.

How’s everyone holding up?

I’ve been away for awhile, and sort of…caught up in the recent political firestorm that now shapes our country. It would take a whole other blog post to get into all the ins and outs of my thoughts on the situation, and I may very well do that, but I’ll keep it short for now: I’m…upset. I’ve got a print release coming soon that will encapsulate my viewpoint about the state of things, and that is to say: a focus on compassion to our fellow humans. It’s the best way I can express who I am and be involved as a force for positive change, as I’ll be donating a portion of my upcoming compassion-themed print to the ACLU. It’s the absolute very least I can do to be an ally in this heavy time of xenophobia and fear.

On that…note? The first new completed work available for purchase this year is “A Slave to Your Devices.” The work is based around a broad theme that encompasses several various elements of existence, including smartphone addiction and the reliance on a closed-loop bubble sort of mindset that helped define this most recent election. Suffice to say, it was still a fun piece to make and it was nice to get back into drawing in painting, after what feels like months of working digitally. Digital works, partially for the upcoming aforementioned compassion-themed print, partially on so many other wonderful projects that I’m super excited for but can’t quite mention just yet. Suffice to say, big things are in the work for 2017, along with a strong emphasis on screenprinted work.

For now, enjoy“A Slave to Your Devices” and with your help, I hope to be able to contribute to positive change in 2017 and beyond. I’m ever grateful for your continuous support as it truly allows me to do what I do for a living, and I love each and every one of you.

Be good to each other.
