I’ve recently finished a new painting based on the upcoming American McGee’s Alice: Madness Returns video game. The painting will be part of a tribute to the newest title from American McGee’s Alice series and coincides with E3 at Gallery 1988 at the Melrose location.

The show opens June 8th and 9th, and features:
“Alice inspired original artwork as well as sketches, artwork and notes from the game’s actual designers. Also available: drinks served by girls in Alice costumes and celebrity DJs. Wow, 25 drawings done. I have to admit when I first started this project, I didn’t think it was gonna go this slowly. To be fair, the drawings have evolved into paintings, as that seems more to be where my creative head is at lately. Especially in the upcoming months. I have a bunch of group shows (too many?) locked down for 2011 and 2012 has a huge solo show lined up for March. I’ll be slaving away all year and into the next to get the body of work done, and I’m very excited. I won’t say exactly where yet, but I’ll leak sneak peeks and of course Twitter progress shots as time goes on. This one will be my biggest and best collection of work to date and I’m very excited and terrified.
Anyway, enjoy Number 25: a mishmash of many different mediums, and even some gold leaf which I’ve been experimenting with lately.

No, not actually anything serious, just the new painted custom I’ve just completed.
Yes, I’m finally getting back to some toy painting. This one is for a Russian Nesting Dolls show opening this Saturday, April 9th at Rothick Art Haus in Anaheim California. Full details are in the flyer down below.
I underestimated how much work these things were gonna be, clearly misled by their simple smooth shape. I thought it would be a breeze with a wide open area of space to paint, not to mention the fact that the tallest doll was only about 7 inches tall. Nope, the sheer multiplicity of the dolls combined with how much detail I choose to make was…a lot of work. I worked right up to the last minute (which I hate doing) but got them done. No resin this time, just acrylic on wooden dolls, natch.
UPDATE: Forgot to mention: Yes, that’s actually gold leafing on the base of the largest doll and over the entirety of the smallest doll. Enjoy!
