And a new print release due to popular demand!
Yes, I’ll have a painting in the upcoming John Hughes Tribute show at the new Gallery-1988 Venice location. I tackled The Breakfast Club, one of my favorite oldie but goodies. This was a fun painting to do, as I’m a huge fan of many 80′s movies, including many of John Hughes’ movies in particular. I tried to keep stuff fun and pretty loose, and genuinely enjoyed working on this, instead of the usual deadline crunch headache.

Dear Mr. Vernon
Acrylic on paper, mounted to wood panel, resined.
13-1/2″ x 20″ (2011)
Here’s the flyer, with all the details. The show opens next Friday in Venice, I hope to see you at the show!

Also on the agenda, I’ve just received word that prints will be made of my painting “Wisdom of the Llama”- a tribute to Bill Murray for the “Is This Thing On?” show at the G1988 LA location last month. More info on this as it develops!

…Crazy 4 Cult is back!

This year’s Crazy 4 Cult show is expected to be the best ever. Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier (of Clerks fame) host the show at Gallery 1988, and the evening promises to be full of great art, and references to some of everyone’s favorite cult classic movies. My take this year is from one of my favorites: The Big Lebowski. Maude gets her due as the dream sequence Valkyrie under delicious double-coated resin. The painting is pretty large, one of my largest on paper to date, and I’m quite pleased with how it turned out. We’ll be in attendance for the opening, this Friday, July 9th from 7-10PM. Hope to see you all there!

…unless you’re not a fan of He-Man.
Here’s my latest painting, in full hard-to-photograph resined glory. The painting will be part of “Masters of the Universe”- a group show at Gallery 1988:LA opening January 8th, 7PM–10PM. Some amazing pieces are in the show, as usual. Jensen curates quite the pool of talent at these shows, and I’m honored to show with everyone. I most likely won’t be able to be at the show, but enjoy the art and the gallery. Apparently they’ve been totally overhauling the gallery to do it up real Eternia-proper. Sounds pretty epic. Enjoy the painting, acrylic on paper again, mounted to wood and then resined. I’m getting ever more comfortable with this combination of media and am really enjoying working this way. Plus, the paintings get done in way less time and (in my opinion) have been turning out pretty well. Enjoy!
