A special Halloween treat…

by ncwinters on October 6, 2009

…for all you good little trick or treaters.

So maybe it isn’t quite for Halloween, but I’ve got some new art in an upcoming show this October. Saturday, October 10 is the date of “Striptease”: a pinup/burlesque themed art show at Distinction Gallery in Escondido. I will be showing four new pieces alongside some other amazing artists.  I’m very excited. I focused on four of my favorite pinup/alternative models: Dita Von Teese, Miss Mosh, Angela Ryan and Apnea. It will also be cool to be back at Distinction Gallery, where I spent a few years renting a studio. I’ll be there with the new addition to our family, and hope to see you all there. I’m very proud of this work and I think it demonstrates some new growth in my acrylic works on wood.

Full details for the show are as follows:

Distinction Gallery Presents:  ”Striptease”

Distinction is pleased to present “Striptease” featuring artists Brian Viveros, Susan Heidi, Angelique Houtkamp, Scott Rohlfs, N.C. Winters, Molly Crabapple, Saratoga Sake. The opening reception will be held on Saturday October 10th from 6-11pm with live music by Escondido based “Rumblers”. Several artists will be in attendance. Don’t miss the enticing event complete with burlesque models handing out goodies and a contest for the “best dressed in burlesque”. The winner will receive a $100 gift certificate to X’s and O’s Lingerie. All in addition to most of our 14 studios will be open along with 100+ works on display in the “Alley” and the “Sub 1K Lounge”.

Justice is served…

by ncwinters on September 26, 2009

…a new painting for your viewing pleasure.

October is a busy month, with no less than three group shows featuring my artwork. Since I’m terrible about planning anything blog related, I’ll do each show a bit at a time, starting with the closest one. The Hive Gallery in Los Angeles is putting on a huge art show featuring the Tarot Deck. Selected artists were asked to create an image based on a card chosen at random. My card was Justice, which I will mull over for meaning based on recent life events. It’s a return to my works on paper days, to which I have been anxious to return. The painting is acrylic on heavy paper, which was then mounted to wood. The whole thing was varnished and then resined for a nice glossy wet look. I’m very pleased with the result and will be doing more paintings with this technique in the future. I’m most comfortable on paper, and this was really fun to do and took less than half the time, while being twice as good. Go figure. Here it is, “Justice” for your viewing pleasure:

The show opens Saturday, October 3rd, at 8PM. Eight dollars at the door gains you entry to what promises to be a fantastic show. Full details below. I was lucky enough to score the cover image, so you know, that’s groovy. Contact Nathan Cartwright at The Hive Gallery for purchasing information.

…at the Hall of Justice.

Tomorrow the show opens! Meanwhile…at the Hall of Justice at Subtext Gallery has its opening reception from 6-10PM, less than two miles from the Convention Center. Take a break from a long day of buying comics, watching movie previews and wincing at awful cosplay at the San Diego Comic Con and head over to the art reception. Live music, refreshing beverages, and many of the artists (including myself) as well as this limited three-day show all for your pleasure. Check out the details below. See you there!
