Number 33 is here, only 67 drawings left to make before 100 Drawings comes to a close.
I’m pretty sure nobody’s holding their breath.
This was a slightly older one lying around that I kept meaning to finish up, but never finding the energy to decide where it should go. Then it finally struck me: it’s already finished. Sure, I could find places to forcibly paint, but I realized I like it as it is, and therefore felt blocked to add any more to it. Hope you feel the same. Enjoy “The Giving Tree”, ink and watercolor on paper:

The show is finished hanging, and ready for your viewing pleasure!
The artwork preview for Damages is now online. Download a catalog of the full show here. I’m very proud of this new body of work, and easily feel it is my best to date. I hope to be able to see you all at the opening, this Friday at Subtext Gallery, from 6-10 PM. Please contact Dylan Jones at Subtext for purchase inquiries.
I’ve been getting a lot of questions regarding the content of the work, and while I generally dislike talking about it, there are some recurring themes throughout the show which I can touch on briefly. I try not to get in the way of the viewer’s experience, and therefore, try not to burden people with my direct goals and inspirations behind every painting. There are always several personal unique reasons behind many aspects of every piece, and these can vary drastically and change depending on the day. For this reason I also find it difficult to help fill in the blanks on a viewer’s experience. All of that being said, here are some of the more direct explanations of the imagery: Damages features a series of paintings dealing with loss, pain, trauma and emotional “damage”, which is often hidden behind a gentle, pleasant facade. I contrast this emotional poison with images of beauty, softness and radiance in the guise of a beautiful face, delicate features and vibrant florae.
Thanks to everyone for their continued support and well wishes. Also a huge thanks to my family and specifically my amazing wife, Ginger. She puts up with so much and the work would not be possible without her patience, love and acceptance. Thank you babe! I’ll see you at the show!

I wanted to be more timely with my updates for the new year, but it looks like 2010 won’t be bringing that resolution to pass.
The show is Night of the Nick Nacks, tomorrow night at Gallery Meltdown in Los Angeles. Artists were asked to create works inspired by the movie Return to Oz and the books of L. Frank Baum. While I hadn’t seen the movie in ages, without a doubt I had to go with Tik Tok. This is another painting on paper, mounted to wood, and I really think I’ve found my groove in this medium.
Opening Reception: February 27, 2010, 6-10pm. Exhibition runs through March 23, 2010. Hope to see you at the show!
