New art and an upcoming new show…

by ncwinters on May 25, 2010

…save the proverbial date!

First up, I’ll have a painting in C.A.V.E. Gallery‘s upcoming two-year anniversary show: “Repeat Offenders” show.  The show opens June 4th at 7PM and goes until 11PM. It’s also a benefits show, for “Haiti Healing Arts” with 20% of all proceeds to fund ICAF’s Art Therapy program for child victims of the earthquake that ravaged Haiti.

“Inner Sanctum”
Acrylic on paper, mounted to wood panel, resined. 7.5″ x 17″

The piece was a fun one to do, working it in around my upcoming solo show in September at Subtext Gallery. It’s a continuation of the recent themes I’ve been playing with, all pieces acrylic on paper, mounted to wood and of course, smothered in resin. I’m more comfortable painting now than I’ve been in quite awhile, which is not to say that I certainly don’t have room for improvement. I’m always striving to get better, and getting into a painting zone has become more…challenging lately with the birth of Jackson. Anyway, mark your calendars, the show opens Friday, September 10th at Subtext Gallery in downtown San Diego. Look for my ad in the July issue of Hi-Fructose magazine. Enjoy!

More art than you can handle…

by ncwinters on July 9, 2009

…or at least more than you should handle, without gloves.

Three group shows in July coming very soon, for your viewing pleasure:

First off, the Kokeshi: From Folk Art to Art Toy show presented by the LATDA and JANM opens July 11, and goes to October 4. Each artist is given a traditional wooden Kokeshi and told to go crazy with it. A  huge lineup of amazing talent is in this show, and I am honored to be a part of it.

“Omniscience”
Acrylic on wood, resined.

Then the always fantastic Crazy 4 Cult: 3-D show at Gallery 1988 is Thursday, July 16th, 7-10PM. The show features 100 artists paying tribute to cult classic films. I’ll be in attendance, drooling all over everyone else’s amazing art, and I will have two pieces in the show: my movies are Fight Club and Edward Scissorhands, respectively.

“I am Jack’s Broken Heart”
Acrylic on wood, resined.

“Severed Edward”
Acrylic on wood, resined.

Lastly but certainly not least-ly is the “Meanwhile…at the Halls of Justice” show at Subtext in San Diego, Friday, July 24th. Corresponding with the San Diego Comic Con (the gallery is only a few minutes away from the convention center), this show has several artists re-imagine superheroes on an off day. Amazing talent again, be sure to check it out, especially if you will be at the Con.

“Darkest Night”
Acrylic on wood, resined.

I’ll be at the G1988 show and the Subtext show. Hope to see you there! Please contact respective galleries for purchasing information.

Show updates- get your Comic Con freak on…

by ncwinters on July 20, 2008

…and swing by LA the next night for even more!

Big upcoming show weekend! Friday, July 25th at Subtext Gallery in downtown San Diego, don’t miss “Beasts of Burden”- a custom vinyl show with many great artists. KMNDZ, N8 Van Dyke, Doktor A, Frank Kozik, Scribe and many other amazing talents will be in this group show that I am proud to be a part of. There’s a sneak preview Thursday, July 24, but the opening reception is Friday, July 25th, from 6-10PM. Yes, this all goes down during the San Diego Comic Con, which is literally a few blocks away. If you are around for the convention, you can’t miss the vinyl show! “Beasts of Burden” is co-curated by Cardboard Spaceship, and I will be at their ComicCon booth 4737 earlier on Friday to promote the show and my work. Swing by their booth at 3PM and I’ll be there for sketching, signing, or just chatting away. The following evening, Saturday July 26th, I will be the featured artist for Cannibal Flower. Show is one night only, from 9PM to 1AM, with a paltry $8 admission. The event will be at Infusion Gallery, in downtown LA. I will be showcasing a large variety of work, so if you haven’t checked out the work in awhile, you should definitely swing by. Here’s a snippet for your viewing pleasure, hope to see you there!
