…yes, it’s a new Alice in Wonderland-themed painting.
Just finished up a new painting for an upcoming Alice in Wonderland themed show at The Hive Gallery in Los Angeles. The show, entitled “Alice in Wonderland 2″ opens March 5, 2011, 8PM-12:30AM. $8 at door/ $5 for those dressed in Alice in Wonderland costume. The show runs March 5th-26th. If you’ve never made it out to a show at The Hive, I strongly encourage you to go, they’ve always been quite the event in the past! I unfortunately won’t be able to make it, but will be there in spirit, whatever that means! The painting was done on the usual medium: acrylic on paper mounted to wood, with some shiny resin thrown on top. Enjoy!

…a new painting for your viewing pleasure.
October is a busy month, with no less than three group shows featuring my artwork. Since I’m terrible about planning anything blog related, I’ll do each show a bit at a time, starting with the closest one. The Hive Gallery in Los Angeles is putting on a huge art show featuring the Tarot Deck. Selected artists were asked to create an image based on a card chosen at random. My card was Justice, which I will mull over for meaning based on recent life events. It’s a return to my works on paper days, to which I have been anxious to return. The painting is acrylic on heavy paper, which was then mounted to wood. The whole thing was varnished and then resined for a nice glossy wet look. I’m very pleased with the result and will be doing more paintings with this technique in the future. I’m most comfortable on paper, and this was really fun to do and took less than half the time, while being twice as good. Go figure. Here it is, “Justice” for your viewing pleasure:

So here it is. What I’ve been doing the past few months while I haven’t been blogging, Daily Drawing, keeping up with client deadlines, sleeping regulary or eating in a healthy and human-like manner. This is the payoff. This is all part of “Bee-Rotica”- a huge art show this coming first Saturday- September 6th, or tomorrow, for those keeping count. I will be one of the two main featured artists at The Hive. The other is the talented Jason Hernandez. As you may have guessed, the theme of the evening is “erotica” and I believe burlesque-type girls shall be there. Not exactly sure what they will be doing, but if they are pretty and half-naked, I know I will be enjoying the evening.
I am quite proud of this new body of work, and have had many fine compliments on it (which is always a help to my ego). While not necessarily a new direction, I think it is definitely a higher comfort level with the paint than I’ve had in a long time. Enough about all that. Hope to see you at the show, I will be in attendance for the evening’s entirety. I would love to promise more Daily Drawing after this is done, but I can’t make any promises.
