Cerberus- a New Print Release!

by ncwinters on July 26, 2012

I’m very excited about this newest print release.

I’m a part of an online art print show entitled Myths & Monsters presented by Acidfree Gallery. The show’s theme is pretty straight forward- fourteen artists create their take on classic myths and monsters. The kicker is that this show is online only, and the works will all be prints. The works are available for purchase Friday, July 27, but the full preview is live right now for your viewing enjoyment. The print run is a limited edition of 75 giclées, on 310 gsm archival smooth fine art paper. Each print is hand signed and numbered, priced at $65 each. The first two prints will be mounted to wood panel and resined in an exclusive release. Only two will be made, available each for $200. Prints are available for purchase tomorrow, July 27 at 12:30 EST. Purchasing info for regular prints is here and the limited resined prints are available here.

My piece, “Cerberus” was a fun and unique project for me. The “original” drawing was done in acrylic ink on paper, but then scanned in, and colored in Photoshop, which I also used to design the whole poster. Truly a mixed media piece, I’m extremely proud of how the final image turned out. Some detail views:

*Update: Some views of one of the finished resin mounts:

I’ve been enjoying working in acrylic ink on paper, and this final traditional/digital hybrid creation won’t be the last time I work in this manner. Here are a couple images of the process of making the piece:

Full details on the show are below. Enjoy!

Another!

Yes, it’s back to birds in the current animal jag I’m on for the 100 Drawings series. This one was a commission so is unavailable for purchase. Incorporated a little more acrylic paint for this one, to build up the whites and blacks. The rest is pure acrylic ink. And yes, for those with shrewd memories, this is very similar to another drawing, Avion Four. This might just suggest there are at least a few more coming in the series, n’est-ce pas?

Many have been asking about my medium lately. I’ve been enjoying the Daler Rowney FW acrylic artist’s inks. The paper is exclusively Arches 300 lb. hot press watercolor paper. It’s rugged and great to work with and has a nice smooth surface for ink work. It’s available at most fine art stores, I happen to buy my stuff from a great art store in Encinitas entitled Rhino Art.

Also, I update my Tumblr, Facebook and recently Instagram (mobile only- my handle is ncwintersart) sites far more often with process photos than I do on this blog. Feel free to lurk after me there for more art happenings.

Here’s one a few commissions on my plate lately. The 100 Drawings schedule is starting to get slightly backed up, but I’m working diligently to get back on track. Keep your eyes peeled for a new 100 Drawing with a corresponding print release soon.
