Rolling along!

Day 3 of 5 days of new art continues with some 3D items. I have an interest in boxes, specifically handmade and hand embellished boxes. One of my many artsy fartsy hobbies includes resining prints, art or collages to either found boxes, or boxes I make from scratch. Often they serve as decorative storage for the neverending pool of art supplies in the studio, but more often they get made from an innate desire to make things. When I find I have too many, or my art supplies exceed the limits imposed by the boxes, or when there’s simply too much stuff in the studio, I sell them off. Today I offer two such boxes.

The “Overdrive” box is made from scratch, basically two cradled panels hinged together with brass latches, with an old AP proof of the “Overdrive” print run resined to the top. The inside has a layer of corkboard on one side and a rubber mat on the other- tailor made to transport the acrylic inks I use. The inks are held with the slightest bit of pressure for if the box tips, the inks should stay upright. At some point I simply had too many jars of ink to keep in this one box, even though it’s a pretty good size. The box is quite sturdy and has a good solid feel.

The “Overflow” box is a bit simpler, just a craft box for pencils that I affixed an old “Overflow” AP print to. This one has seen some heavy use and is marked up as such. To compensate for the wear and tear, I’m including a free small varnished ink drawing with purchase.

The last item today is a small painting: “Mercurial.” Not much to say about this one, except that it was a lot of fun to do. Enjoy today’s offerings, and look for two more days of new stuff tomorrow and Friday.
