Yes, ’tis the season yet again for a myriad of holidays, across a myriad of cultural backgrounds, and the ubiquitous American celebration of offering incredible deals on purchases made on the darkest of Fridays. Yes, that’s 25% off the original prices of all prints, originals, framed originals, pins, sculpture, and anything else that might be wedged in the dark recesses of the digital aisles of my web superstore, but only with the code FESTIVUS and only for that week (plus one day).

This sale is also applicable to the “Reconfigured” print set now available in the online shop:

It’s that time of year…

Crazy 4 Cult is back, for the ninth time! For those unaware, C4C is an annual pop culture-themed art show at Gallery 1988, where several artists are asked to create a unique piece of art in honor of their favorite pop culture films. From Gallery 1988:

*****
There are over 200 artists (!!!!) in this year’s exhibit, and it truly is shaping up to be one of the best. Paintings, prints, sculptures and plush, all inspired by your favorite movies. See where it all started this weekend!! The artwork will first be available at the opening reception, then online for purchase starting Saturday afternoon at gallery1988.com. This show will run through Dec. 5th.

For my painting this time around, I took on the amazing 1988 anime Akira, based on the manga by Katsuhiro Otomo. I’ve been meaning to capture Tetsuo’s climactic metamorphosis for some time, and this seemed the perfect opportunity. It was an extremely short timeline, and the restraint made me push that much harder. I’m very pleased with the result. For purchase inquiries, please contact the gallery directly: gallery1988melrose (at) gmail.com.

Enjoy “Tetsuo Becoming.”

“Originals: A Fine Art Show” at Mondo!

by ncwinters on November 10, 2015

So very excited about this show.

As you may or may not know, Mondo Gallery is known for pop culture and movie posters. One of the biggest players in the pop culture scene, they’ve switched it up for this new show. “Originals: A Fine Art Show” prohibits pop culture of any kind, and instead celebrates the unique original works made by some top notch artists, with content 100% new original content, generated for this show. From Mondo themselves:

*****
We’re doing something unprecedented for our next event, “Originals: A Fine Art Show.” Our gallery has celebrated Disney characters, Marvel superheroes, Universal Monsters, Game of Thrones, Cinematic Villains, Batman, and now we turn to the artists themselves for inspiration, unleashed to produce original works of art and screen prints with complete artistic freedom.

I’m thrilled to be showing alongside such an incredible roster of talent, many of whom I had the pleasure of meeting at MondoCon and the now infamous “Camp Deathslide” experience, post-con. I had a ton of fun working on my piece for the show: “Blister.” It’s part of a new push for the new year (starting a little early) to try and raise the level of the work I make. There was an abundance of inspiration from MondoCon, and getting to meet and hang out with some of the hardest working artists in the industry has pushed me to try and up my game. This piece is also the first of a new direction of matt-varnished works in which I’ve decided to stop resining the pieces I make. From now on, save for a select few projects, I will be no longer poisoning myself with the toxic fumes and uncertainty of a resin flood.

“Originals: A Fine Art Show” will open on Friday, November 13 and run until Saturday, December 5 at the Mondo Gallery in Austin, TX. Full details down below. Wish I could be at this one in person, if you’re in the Austin area, this isn’t one to be missed! Enjoy!
