PIXIES Gig Poster, August 11 at Chula Vista, CA

by ncwinters on August 13, 2018

New PIXIES gig poster!

show version, not available.

It’s been a hectic few months. Well, year for that matter. This is one of a couple times in 2018 where I’ve got multiple gig posters dropping in the same month. This newest is for Pixies, for a local-ish gig in Chula Vista, California. This stemmed from an image I’ve had knocking around in my head for half a year, and it was exciting to finally be able to get it out into the world in gig poster form. The original image was an ink drawing which was scanned in and then colored digitally. Was fun to keep the style nice and sketchy on this one, and I’m very happy with how it turned out.

I’ll have my purple artist variants along with a small set of foils available for purchase this coming Wednesday, August 15 in my online shop at a random time. As usual, to get the exact drop time, you need to be subscribed to my online newsletter. You can sign up for free in the sidebar.
On to the prints!

New gig poster, my third so far for the band 311!

Show version. Not available unless you were at the show and picked one up. Or eBay I guess.

Coming off the success of another San Diego Comic Con, it’s right back to work with posters that have been hidden away for the past month or so, and are finally ready for the world. I was contacted to do another 311 poster, and it’s time for the final reveal. This was the poster for last week’s gig in The Woodlands Texas and my artist copies are ready for purchase in the online shop. But first….

Funny story.

I originally intended a super simple, clean, not-too-detailed concept for this poster, due to a shorter deadline and trying to simplify my schedule and poster design. Make it clean, simple, minimal, and not visual overload. Welp, that clearly went down the drain and I ended up going crazy detailed yet again. Funny what happens when you fall into flow. Really happy with how it all came together. My artist copies will be in two colorways, and with a rainbow foil for each. The prints will go up for purchase this coming Friday, August 10, and as always, for the exact time, you have to be signed up to my newsletter. You can sign up right over there, it’s there in the sidebar on the right side, right there. Right? On to the prints.

Moleskine Project VII

by ncwinters on August 3, 2018

The Moleskine Project is back!

I’m honored to be included in this year’s lineup for Moleskine Project VII at Spoke Art Gallery in NYC. The annual show features several artists each creating a unique image via the medium of the classic Moleskine sketchbook. It’s always a delight to see all the different interpretations of how each artist tackles this challenge, both in content and in medium. You’d think the most obvious solution would be pencil or pen on paper, but artists used a variety of methods from acrylics, gouache and  watercolor, to oils, spray paint, and even cutting and manipulation of the pages themselves.

I went with a very straightforward approach and just filled the spread with as much ink drawing as my cramped hands would let me. And then I added just a little more. It was a joy to hear that the piece sold before the show’s opening. I’m super happy with how it turned out, as well as the caliber of art delivered for the show by all the artists. As usual, Rod Luff and Ken Hashimoto know how to curate an incredible group of artists, and I’m honored to be showing with them.

The show opens tomorrow, July 4 at Spoke Art in NYC. I wish I could be in attendance, but I will be stuck on the west coast. If you’re in the New York metro area, don’t miss out on the show! And here is my contribution: “Behold.”

“Behold”
Pen and ink in Moleskine sketchbook.
