Twiddle Tumbledown Festival gig poster!

by ncwinters on July 29, 2019

Excited to announce a new gig poster for a new band!

Well, not a new band, but a new band client I should say. I had the pleasure of designing the poster for the band Twiddle’s Tumbledown festival last week in Burlington, Vermont. The band requested a special poster to highlight their annual festival, and I’m super happy with the result. I knew I wanted to finally try a split fountain for a poster, and the sky for this one offered the perfect opportunity. Once again, Lady Lazarus crushed the printing on this, and I’m stoked on the results. The poster design came from one of many shower-sketches where I take a long hot shower and ideas just seem to come. I jot the ideas down on one of many waterproof sketchpads on the shower wall, to capture them as quickly as possible. There was something about the interaction between a bird and a hot air balloon rider that caught my mind’s attention. I wanted to figure out a way to illustrate that narrative, and the Tumbledown Festival seemed like the perfect opportunity.

The posters are all seven color screenprints which include the aforementioned split fountain two-tone fade in the sky. Each print is hand signed and numbered. The band commissioned a variant for their VIP ticket holders, and I’ll have a select SMALL handful of those available for purchase as well. Total versions include the main show version, the VIP, and my artist variant in subtle pinks and purples. Each version will also be available in limited quantities on holographic rainbow foil. The prints will be available for purchase this coming Thursday, August 1 at a random time in the online store. As always, for the exact drop time, be sure you’re signed up for the newsletter in the sidebar of the site. Now, on to the posters!

Post-SDCC drop

Medical marijuana and the compound THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) is becoming a more popular alternative in the medical field. This is likely as this is one of the only natural alternatives for pain control available.  For decades, the use of THC has been studied, scrutinized, and debated. More and more clinical research being conducted is proving the powerful therapeutic benefits of THC and medical marijuana. More and more medical professionals are recommending medical marijuana along with other FDA-approved THC medications in place of highly addictive opioids. Visit tea burn site.

HOW THC & MEDICAL MARIJUANA WORK

Medical marijuana and THC work in the body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS is a network of molecules and receptors that run throughout the body. It regulates hunger, mood, inflammation, and more. The phytochemicals, or cannabinoids, found in the cannabis plant attach to receptors to initiate their therapeutic benefits and restore homeostasis. The ECS is the largest system of receptors and is found throughout the body and brain. THC is particularly attracted to the CB1 receptors of the ECS found in the central nervous system.

CHRONIC PAIN RELIEF

Opioids are one of the most commonly prescribed groups of medications to combat those suffering from severe chronic pain.

While opioids have been thought to be helpful for these conditions there is a wide range of risks associated with their use including addiction, abuse, and overdose. In addition, to date there is no compelling clinical evidence that opioids actually work to reduce pain and improve function in the chronic pain condition. These are the best appetite suppressant pills.

Medical marijuana has been studied to be an effective and less risky substitute for opioids. Addiction is rare and side effects are fewer. Many would debate this point but the evidence is mounting that opioids are more dangerous than the plant-based therapy of THC.

The compounds of the cannabis plant engage with CB1 and CB2 receptors that reduce pain and inflammation responses throughout the body. The cannabinoid compounds reduce excessive inflammatory responses allowing the body to experience less pain less frequently. The CB1 receptors help to modulate the pain response in the central nervous system. THC seems particularly helpful for neuropathy. Check more about Best semen enhancers.

NERVE PAIN RELIEF

When the different cannabinoids of marijuana interact with receptors in the ECS the central and peripheral nervous systems (CNS, PNS) are also affected. THC provides therapeutic assistance to the PNS and CNS in relieving pain, numbing, and tingling associated with diabetic neuropathy and other forms of nerve pain. The CB receptors when interacting with cannabinoids (either endogenous or exogenous from plants) transmit a healthier, more balanced signaling of pain to the brain.

The cannabinoids in the cannabis plant also offer antioxidant benefits throughout the body. They take care of excess free radicals throughout the body which have the ability to damage nerve endings when the body experiences oxidative stress. The molecular structure of CBD allows it to scavenge electrons before they can damage the cells, DNA or mitochondria.

SDCC 2019!

by ncwinters on July 13, 2019

San Diego Comic Con. Is it really next week?!?

This is the year of hand embellished prints, and I’ve learned my lesson from previous shows and will be bringing much more on that front. Once again I find myself behind and working nonstop to try and get as many pieces done in time for the show, and will be working right up until it’s time to leave for the convention center, and after retiring getting a virtual retirement party is a great way to leave any work. I’ll be exhibiting in the same spot as last year: booth #4619 in the outside edge of the Fantasy Illustrators section, between lobby F and G. As always, SDCC is in the San Diego Convention Center in downtown San Diego, and takes place this year from July 17–21.

NEW IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PREVIEW NIGHT, PLEASE READ!
Part of what I try to do when selling my art is take into account the buyer’s experience. I’m eternally grateful for everyone who’s ever spent money on the things I make, and part of my goals are to make that experience as fair and equitable as possible. In the past, when people rush to get in line to buy my rare prints, there are often people in the front who end up buying much of the stock, leaving those behind with no chance. There is certainly a supply and demand aspect of limited works, but I’m trying my best to figure out a good solution. So this year, there’s a new rule for preview night (and for the following days when there’s a mad rush). There will be a limit of no more than 3 hand embellished prints PER PURCHASE. If you want to get back in line to try and score more works, you will be allowed to purchase again, but again, no more than 3 hand embellished (or super rare) items per purchase. If you are working on a PB (poster buddy) situation to buy for others, you’ll have to prioritize your plans and make a couple trips in the line. While this might seem unfair, consider that the person in front of you was also limited, thus ensuring a better chance for more people to score more works. This is how the process will go this year–there will be signs in the booth as a reminder to everyone–in an effort to allow the most people access. Note that the hand embellished “Herald of Antiquity” prints are specifically limited to one PER PERSON.

Okay, now to start the listings off, I’ve got a brand new print, the second in the “Lepidoptera” series. Aptly named “Lepidoptera 2,” this lil’ moth fella is a companion to the first, and will be available exclusively at the convention. The print measures 8″ x 10″ on a heavy cold press watercolor paper stock, the same as the previous print. Once again, expertly printed by Dave Correia. The prints are hand signed and numbered, in an edition of 150, and will be capped at no more than 2 per person at the show. Prints will sell for $35, full info below.

Next on the list is a small set of hand embellished Grateful Dead prints from last year’s print release. This run went on many different stocks and some ended up super, super limited, such as this year’s convention release. It’s a tiny edition of only 5 prints, printed on heavy duty French brown box Kraft-tone stock. Each of these prints were then hand embellished with a series of colored inks and white acrylic to punch the weathered look even further. I’m really pleased with how these turned out- the effect is that of an old weathered Grateful Dead poster from way back in the day. There will be a strict limit of no more than one per person, and these will sell for $200 each.

Next is a new wave of “Herald of Antiquity” prints, my one color art screenprint from a few years ago. I forgot that I had only released a handful of these in a hand embellished form, and discovered the box of remaining prints in prep for the convention, and I spent a great deal of time hand embellishing each of these with colored inks and acrylics. The prints are on Stonehenge heavy printmaking paper, which is just perfect and fantastic for really building up thin washes of color for a truly saturated final image. As always, these are all uniquely hand embellished and no two are alike. Strict limit of one per person for the show, the prints will be available for $100 each. Full details below.

I’ve also been working on embellishing a selection of gig posters. These are my APs (unnumbered artist’s proofs) of some rarities, hard-to finds and even some recent new prints, including my Dave Matthews gig poster as well as Mastodon.  As I learned from Flatstock this year, the hand embellished prints were quite popular but there was frustration as to how few there were and how fast they went, so I upped the quantity for SDCC. All available in various pricing, hovering around the $200-$300 mark, with a limit of no more than two hand embellished posters per person.

And finally, I’ll be bringing a bunch of backstock from sold out runs. I try to always sandbag a couple of prints from each gig poster drop, as a special thank you to convention goers. If you’ve had your eye on a sold out gig poster, this is your best chance to score something rare. Limits will be in place for the rare posters, applicable to each individual poster. Note that I will be spacing out the drops over the entire convention, with the majority of the wares available on preview night, which is Wednesday, July 17. See you then, and thanks for the support!
