Very, very excited to finally officially announce this new print.
I say that a lot don’t I? Am I excited about everything I make? Is it hype? I hope it’s not the latter, but this time I am definitely really, really excited about this one.
Handily the most intricate and complex work I’ve made to date, I’m blown away with how this print turned out, as it’s a perfect encapsulation of my preferred medium: stream of consciousness. This print also has several bells and whistles I’m very amped about. Special thanks to the fantastic crew at End Hymns for the stellar job producing these in screenprinted form. In addition to the airtight registration and perfect colors (7, including a spot gloss varnish), they also hand deckled the edges of each print, produced on a fine cotton rag paper.
The goal for this print was to really push the boundaries of what I am capable of creatively and through the screenprint medium. Transparent colors are built up in transparent tones, much like watercolor, to try and get a wide range of color and tonal value with as few plates as possible. The final product was then pushed a little further with a spot gloss varnish on the shiny and “wet” areas of the piece- metals, eyes, etc. Additionally, the stock is a high end cotton rag, with hand-deckled edges (done by the professionals at End Hymns, not me!) which also take hand embellishing beautifully. I’m really excited and delighted at the quality of this premium new print.
The prints will release in two waves. There are a total of four colorways, only the first two will be available in Wave 1. The second two variants will come out in Wave 2, which will be announced in the new year.
“Classic” and “Midnight” are the first two colorways, shown in order, along with some details views to follow. In addition to the regular prints, a select handful will be hand embellished for those wanting something extra. The hand embellished prints will go above and beyond, featuring custom painting, ink washes, iridescent inks, gold leaf and whatever else comes to mind in the time I’ve been working (and will continue to work) on these. For real: the cotton rag paper has made these a delight to work on, and I may have gone a little overboard.
