Time seems like a new and increasingly abstract thing. But at least there’s new Lepidoptera to catch.
Been an age since my last update. I feel like that’s what I always say now, but in this case it actually was November I last released some new art, and that may be a new record. It feels ever increasingly strange to release art into the world right now. A world dealing with the ravages of Covid, a new war in Ukraine and all the other chaos of life, but it is what I do. And it is what I must do, both to keep my sanity and also provide for my family. So here we are.
I’m extremely happy with how the two newest entries into the Lepidoptera catalogue have come out. As always, thanks to Dave Correia for his impeccable skill printing these. His eye for maintaining the colors I’m pushing for is always appreciated. Thank you Dave.
This round features a couple variants from each main colorway. Maybe it’s the ADHD, maybe it’s just indecisiveness, but the last step of tweaking final color for output always brings new discoveries. Unseen possibilities for what ‘might have been’ color-wise from my original intention creating these bugs. It’s increasingly hard to resist seeing some of them come to fruition in printed form. So there’s some extra to choose from this time around.
The prints match the dimensions and medium of all previous Lepidoptera: 10″ wide by 8″ tall, on natural 100% cotton rag watercolor paper. Each print is hand signed and numbered according to edition size. Also, same as before, I’ve hand embellished a select few prints, for those who like their Lepidoptera with an extra personal touch. Irregular edges, drawing, colored inks, acrylic paint and textural effects, metallics, iridescent inks and whatever else is at hand in the studio as I free-form make a handful of prints into one-of-a-kind individual new paintings. These are random and all unique: you won’t know how one will look until it arrives.
Please note! There are strict limits in place in terms of how many prints can be purchased, and will be enforced, violators will have all orders cancelled and refunded:

These have traditionally gone very quickly, and I expect the same may happen for the very limited variants, so your best bet is the newsletter with drop time.

For your information, there is a group on Facebook dedicated to my artwork. The group is filled with really good people who talk about, show off frame ups and help each other out in acquiring long lost works of mine. I didn’t create the group, several “fans” did.
