I’ve purchased some charcoal.
That was the easy part, the hard part is trying out this new medium again for the first time in about thirteen years. The last time I used charcoal was for foundations courses in college. Didn’t like it then, and starting out with it brought back all the same issues of the texture on paper. The sound/feel of it is…maddening to say the least. I don’t mind nails on a chalkboard, but the feel of charcoal on paper feels like the equivalent of what most people despise about the sound for me. Suffice to say, I was seeing the appeal after a few hours and wish to spend more time in this oldest of old-school mediums. Enjoy my first attempt, “Crowned In Darkness.” And yes, I couldn’t resist, and had to add ink near the end.
