Crazy 4 Cult New York!

by ncwinters on August 8, 2012

It’s back!

Yes, it’s that time again, to get Crazy 4 Cult, the annual cultural art phenomenon put on by Gallery 1988 that celebrates cult movies, interpreted through the eyes of a bunch of awesome artists. This year is extra special, as the show will debut as a pop-up gallery in New York City, and it opens tomorrow night! I am proud to be a part of this amazing show, and couldn’t help but tackle Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining for my contribution, Descent Into Madness:

Descent Into Madness
Acrylic ink on paper, mounted to wood panel and resined.
13.25″ x 14.25″ (2012)

I put a ton of detail into this piece, and still was able to have a lot of fun as well. And yes, what better way to portray the madness of Jack Torrance than by hand-writing out the iconic “All work no play” phrase a million times in the background. OK, maybe not a million times, but you get the idea. Here are some detail views:

The show promises to be amazing, I’m sad I can’t make it out to my old stomping grounds in New York City. Here’s a little more info from the gallery:
