Mondocon 2017!

by ncwinters on November 1, 2017

It’s back! My favorite convention of the year.

Super, super excited for Mondocon this year. I’ll be on the corner- booth B34 with several rare works for the convention. Been working for a long time on several new hand embellished prints to release at the convention, along with some last minute gig poster drops from this week! A lot to get through here, so let’s just dive in!

With the success of the hand embellished Alien prints from SDCC, I got to work on a new batch of reworked b/w variant prints, in addition to some of the full color main timed edition. I also realized from SDCC that the prices were a bit…on the low side and have modified the pricing accordingly. $400 each for the hand embellished B/W Variant prints, and $450 each for the full color. There will be limits per person at the booth, as there’s been incredible demand.

“ALIEN” Officially Licensed Screenprint Posters
(hand embellishments of one color limited variant edition and six color open edition)
Print size: 24″ x 36″ Only about eleven available.
$400 (b/w version) and $450 (full color) each.

In addition to the Alien hand embellished prints, I also reworked some of the Primus with Clutch gig posters, the one color variants. These were a ton of fun to do, and I’ll have about 12 available at the convention, for $200 each. I also grabbed a few of the remaining Prints on Wood “Blister” prints and added some embellishment along with a coat of varnish. I’ll have three of these at the show, for $150 each.

I’ll also be bringing a few of the 311 gig posters which sold out super quick earlier this week. There will be limited quantities of each, and only one per person. Various pricing, see below.

And finally, I’m excited to reveal my new glow-in-the-dark gig poster for Primus from last Halloween night. Took a new approach on this one, with very little actual straight up linework, and more subtle shadowy tones throughout. I’ll have EXTREMELY limited quantities of the show version as well as a few variants available (the bulk will release online at a later date). Strict limit of one (of each) per person. See pricing below.

MONDOCON 2016!!!

by ncwinters on October 17, 2016

It’s almost time, and I’m champing at the bit for it to get here.

I am so beyond excited, as MondocCon is easily my favorite convention of the year. It’s an annual event (the third so far) from Mondo Gallery which celebrates art– well, here it is in their own words:

“MondoCon is a celebration of everything we love, including movies, art, comics, music, toys and food. It’s a weekend curated with our fans in mind, featuring incredible Artists & Creators from around the world, Panels, Screenings, Food Trucks & Interactive Events. MondoCon 2016 takes place October 22nd and 23rd in Austin, Texas.”

Last year was my first time, and besides being a nonstop exhausting onslaught of drawing, painting and talking with so many wonderful people and other artists, the convention itself was a total blast. This year I’ve tried to take what I learned from last year and try to refine my convention experience and up the ante in terms of products. Let’s get to it!

UPDATE: Surprise Drop!
0. “From the Upside Down” Original and Limited Edition giclée art print.
Just finished in the knick of time, I’ll have a new print based off the amazing “Stranger Things” show phenomenon. Seriously, if you haven’t seen it, go Netflix-binge it tonight. It grabs you by the nostalgic 80s thriller and never lets go. Fantastically executed, seriously, just go check it out right now. I tackled the Demogorgon from the show, so I guess SPOILERS in a way, (but still, the show isn’t spoiled, go see it) and gave him some floral camouflage to better navigate the real world. The original painting will be at the convention, available at the crazy low Mondocon price of $1000. If unsold, it will increase in price when it goes online for purchase after the show. The prints are archival fine art giclée prints on 100% cotton rag and super limited to an edition of 30. ONLY 15 will be available at Mondocon, so if you’re interested, grab one early! Prints are 9″ x 12,” each hand signed and numbered and available for $40 each.

1. “Mortal Coil” Screenprint.
The first item up is a brand new screenprint, my largest and most elaborate to date. “Mortal Coil” is an 18″ x 24″ four color screenprint in two different colorways, masterfully printed by Danny Askar of Static Medium. Danny has been incredibly patient and forthcoming with a ton of helpful info to help me streamline my screenprinting process. While my background is in print production, and I have trapped artwork to prepare for silkscreen printing on apparel in the past, I’ve rarely created my own work for silkscreen production on paper. My fourth screenprint to date, I’ve pushed myself as hard as I ever have and am thrilled with the final results. The prints are printed on Madero Beach 100# speckletone, each print hand signed and numbered. Regular edition colorway prints with a lustrous purple are limited to 80 prints, while the variant colorway in more muted browns and blues is limited to only 40 prints. Regular edition prints sell for $50, and the variants are available for $55 each.

2. Original Drawings and Paintings.
In addition to the new screenprint, I’ll have several small original drawings and paintings, same as last year. This year though, expect a little more detail as I sort of got sucked into the screenprint process and went on an ink jag for a while with an emphasis on intricate linework. I’ll be working up until the doors open to have as many available as I can. Prices will range from around $100 to $250, depending on size and complexity.

Original Ink Drawings
Ink on paper, various sizes.
$100–$250, depending on size/complexity.

3. Sketchcards!
Yes, sketchcards are back again. I’ll have a selection of my newest screenprinted sketchcard, printed on Stonehenge printmaking paper, slightly larger and more detailed than the ones from MondoCon 2. This time, however, I’m sticking to black and white or sepia. Yep, just one color this year, as attendees from last year may remember me working feverishly to try and stay ahead of the requests, and this year I’d like to actually be able to look up on occasion. I’ve also slightly bumped the price because last year’s was a little on the low side as a test, and the test succeeded (or failed, depending on your point of view). I’ll take SIMPLE requests, and WITHIN REASON. Sketchcard ideas are subject to the artist’s discretion- this is for both of our benefit- it keeps me drawing happily and gives you something that will best showcase my talents. They’ll be available until they’re gone, I only plan on bringing about 40 this time, as I think at final count, I ended up doing over 80 last year (!!!). First come, first served, $40 each, while supplies last.

4. Giclée Art Prints
Recently I had a limited edition print drop from 1xRUN for the KAABOO festival in Del Mar, California. Commissioned for one of the music stages, I was honored to have the art alongside such acts as Chris Isaak, Macy Gray, Collective Soul, The Goo Goo Dolls, Blues Traveler, and several others. I’ll have a few artist proofs left of the 17″ x 17″ super vibrant seahorse print “Duality” available for purchase for $60 each. Each print comes with a hand signed certificate of authenticity signed by 1xRUN and myself. Very limited quantities remain.

5. Enamel pins
I will have some of my enamel pins from Yesterdays available for purchase as well. “Avion” artist edition pins are available in two colorways: “Fire” and “Ice” and will be available while quantities last for $12 each.

“Avion” artist edition enamel pins from Yesterdays
1.25″ soft enamel black nickel plated lapel pin w/ single post black rubber backer.
Available in two colorways: “Fire” and “Ice” for $12 each.

All remaining, unsold works will be available after the convention (but give me a few days to get home and recover). Keep an eye on my Facebook art page for details on post-show drops.

You can find me the same place as last year, in Arsenio Hall, looking on the left hand side and down the aisle as you walk in, at booth #B18. I’ll have a few more surprises and a couple more drawings, as many as I can get done before the doors open, or my hand falls off, whichever comes first. I’m very excited for the show and looking forward to seeing so many people who I’ve had the pleasure of interacting with in the art community online, but who I so rarely get the chance to see in person. Hope you’re able to make it out to Austin to Mondocon 3 this weekend, it should be a blast!
See you there!

It’s almost here!

I am beyond excited and more than a little exhausted preparing for MondoCon in Austin Texas this coming weekend: October 3–4. This is the second annual MondoCon, and I regrettably missed the first one. What exactly is MondoCon? Here’s the answer, from the Mondoids themselves:

“MondoCon is a celebration of everything we love, including movies, art, comics, music, toys and food. It’s a weekend curated with our fans in mind, featuring incredible Artists & Creators from around the world, Panels, Screenings, Food Trucks & Interactive Events. This is the second annual MondoCon, and we can’t wait for you guys to see what we have planned.

The roster of talent for this event is downright absurd. I’m super looking forward to meeting and hanging out with these legends.

I will be there the whole weekend, talking, answering questions, drawing and selling my art. I have several exclusive goodies lined up including small originals, exclusive prints, enamel pins, and fresh original sketchcards done right there on the spot. I’ll be at booth #B18 in Arsenio Hall, at the Marchesa Hall & Theatre in Austin, TX. Doors open at 10AM. Yes, they’ve named their halls after pop culture characters. The Mondo sense of humour is intertwined throughout the whole event.

At SDCC, I made up some hand weathered papers that I drew on, available for purchase. For MondoCon, I’ve upped the ante and created one-color screenprints on Stonehenge printmaking paper that have the event info printed on an ornate border treatment. So for $20, I will draw something custom (relatively simple, will have to see how long the lines are!) and you can take home a one-of-a-kind original AND limited edition screenprint AND MondoCon souvenir all in one! For those who want a little something extra, I’ll have some already done in full color and hand stained with my weathered inked look. These babies will be more limited, available for $50 each. I’ve had a total of only 200 of these made, with about 150 available at MondoCon. (The others were a little TOO experimented on, and may see the light of day another time…) This is all an experiment for my first MondoCon, we’ll see if this was a terrible idea or not, as many have expressed that I may have bitten off more than I can chew for such a great deal. We’ll see!

MondoCon Exclusive 6″ x 9″ Sketch Cards
Limited to about 150, one color screenprint on Stonehenge Printmaking paper
Each print will be drawn on by hand at the convention, with some done in advance.
Regular black/white simple pen/ink sketch cards $20 each.
Elaborate color/embellished sketch cards $50 each.

$50 each for full color options, ready to go!

In what has become a bit of a calling card for my conventions, I’ll be lugging along a big stack of small original drawings and paintings. I sell these at crazy affordable prices, both as a thank you to convention goers for coming out and coming to my booth, and also because then I don’t have to ship them out. I’ll have about 30 or so small originals from about $75 each up to about $150. If you were ever considering buying an original piece of my art, this would be the perfect time, as my prices are only this low at conventions! Have I mentioned that I hate shipping?

So many originals, probably more made by the time I arrive.

In addition to my screenprinted sketchcards, I’ll also have a limited edition screenprint. “Herald of Antiquity” will be available as a 12″ x 16″ one color screenprint on Stonehenge printmaking paper. Similarly to the sketchcards, I’ve hand embellished the first twenty prints in one-of-a-kind colorways. More than just a simple added brushstroke or two, these hand embellished prints almost become new originals in their own right with all the painted elements I’ve added. Regular screenprints will be available for $40, with the hand embellished prints available for $75 each. Each print is hand signed and numbered.

Print size: 12″ x 18″ Limited edition of 100, one color on Stonehenge printmaking paper.

Herald_PrintPix600Every one of the hand embellished prints is unique- no two alike!

I’ll also be selling a select set of enamel pins, designed and created by the good people at Yesterdays, Inc. These awesome pins will be available in limited quantities, exclusively at my booth during MondoCon. $10 each, or get all six for $50, that’s getting one pin free for the mathematically not-so-inclined! There has been extreme interest in these, and they’re expected to go fast so get there early!

YesterdaysPinSet$10 each or all six for $50- you need these.

And last but definitely not least, the excellent crew at Static Medium will be releasing a MondoCon exclusive four print set of some of my works from my recent “Reconfigured” show. “Lifespace,” “Originator,” “Solidarity” and “Pensive” will all be available in a set, with each print size at 7″ x 7″ and individually hand signed and numbered. The prints are limited to a set of only 40 each, and can only be purchased as a set, available for $75. It’s a fantastic deal, four of the highest quality giclée prints, at under $20 a print. They’ll be just around the corner, at booth B17, definitely swing by to talk with these great people and see what else they’ve got in their fantastic print arsenal.

Contains four individual 7″ x 7″ prints, in a Limited edition set of only 40 total sets.

I’m super excited for this weekend. There’s more than a good chance I may need a complete week off following all the madness that is to come, but, bring it on. I’m excited to be included in this venue, with the caliber of talent on the roster, and with a targeted show that aims my work directly to an interested audience. Rather than trying to shoehorn my work in and around other conventions where it might not be the best fit, MondoCon is all about art, all about art buyers, pop culture, great food and beer, and an amazing time. I will see you all there!
