San Diego Comic-Con 2022: It’s Back!

by ncwinters on July 19, 2022

It’s a mad dash and I’m running behind, what else is new?

San Diego Comic-Con has returned in person after a two year break. It runs this week, July 21 to July 24. I’ll be exhibiting and slinging art in the usual spot again this year at Booth 4619 in the Fantasy Illustrators section in Lobby G. Preview night (available to 4 day pass holders ONLY) is Wednesday, July 20, at 6PM. This is the special “preview” to the official opening and is generally known to be the best time to get the super exclusives.

This year I have several new offerings that will debut exclusively at SDCC. For those not attending, I will be holding back some of the new items to sell in my online shop after the convention, along with as any unsold items. I’ll mention that release date later. But SDCC is still going to be the best bet for access, so get your poster buddies ready!

I’m spacing the allotment of my art for sale over the entire four days of the convention, but it will be weighted heavier towards the beginning and slow down as the show progresses. I’ll have a good portion of my drop available on Preview Night though, so to get your best shot at the super rares and exclusives try to get there as early as possible.

First off, I’m debuting the next set of Lepidoptera: Lep 14 “Luna” and Lep 15 “Sphinx.” They come in the regular matching sets of two as usual, and also feature a variant colorway in more limited amounts, sold individually. I will also once again have a small amount of hand embellished versions available for $250 each. For some of them, I got carried away and they went from “hand embellished” to essentially “full blown painting.” These will be denoted as Premium Hand Embellished, and available for $400 each.

Hand Embellished version – $250 each.
Limit one per person.

Premium Hand Embellished – over-the-top galactic version – $400 each.
Limit one per person.

I forgot to mention in the chaos of the year that I designed two cards for Magic: the Gathering: Grim Backwoods (land) and Sigarda, Champion of Light (legendary creature). This was a true bucket list project, and I’m excited to have my artist proofs available at the convention. The artist proofs differ from regular cards by having blank backs. Every card will have a unique random sketch on the back and will be hand signed and numbered. Sigarda comes in both a regular and a more limited holographic foil version.

I also have a brand new set of bugs (insects have become a bit of a theme) entitled “B3TL” (pronounced “beetle”). B3TL is a new collectible set of four 5″ x 7″ giclee prints on watercolor paper (the same paper as Lepidoptera) in a limited edition of 150 sets. Twenty lucky buyers will also receive one of four different B3TLs in a variant colorway, limited to only five total of each. They’re blind-packed, so you won’t know until you open them. Limit three packs per person. Hand embellished sets also available, though no rares included in the hand embellished sets.

B3TL Series One– set of four 5″ x 7″ prints. $100 per set.
Limit three sets per person.

Hand Embellished set $250 each.
Limit one set per person.

I will also be debuting a new screenprint from the Sigarda art I created for Magic: the Gathering. The poster will be available in two colorways, each print hand signed and numbered.

There will be far more small originals available than what is listed below, keep an eye on my Instagram and Facebook page/stories for updates on new originals as they get completed. And of course, check by the booth often as I’ll most likely be painting live much of the time.

Lots of bugs this year! Several small originals in various sizes.
3″ x 5″ to 4″ x 6″ (shown above) $200-$300 each.

Larger pieces will also be available.
“Mood Board” 9″ x 12″ $900.

And finally, it wouldn’t be a convention without hard-to-find gems. I’ll have some sold-out gig posters from Primus, Dave Matthews Band, Metallica, 311 and more. Also, look for some elusive art prints including Fading Away, Liminal, and recent sold out Lepidoptera.

Sold out Primus Broadmoor variant foil, and others!

See you at the CON!
