New gig poster!

I’m happy to announce my first ever gig poster for Trey Anastasio Band and Goose. The gig date was a few weeks ago: November 19, in Reading Pennsylvania.

I’m extremely pleased with how the final posters turned out. Special thanks to DL Screenprinting for the fabulous job on printing. I understand the poster sold out at the venue, which is always great to hear, in terms of the image resonating with people. Special thanks to Jimmy for having me onboard for this gig.

My artist variants come in two colorways: “Ice” and “Blush,” in blue and pink tones respectively. The prints are 18″ x 24″ seven color screenprints on Cougar natural 100# paper stock. Each colorway is also available on holographic rainbow foil, with an added white base, for a total of eight colors. The situation with the band was unique this time, in that there are an even number of foils as paper prints, which is a first for me. There is still a strict limit of one foil of each colorway per person/family/household, so that as many people as possible can get them (limited to the number of prints of course).

I spend quite a bit of time reflecting on this bizarre career I’m fortunate to have: to be able to make and sell my own artwork for a living. I am always aware of how fortunate I am to even have the option to do what I do, but I try to be as diligent as I can to not take it for granted. Thank you to each and everyone who has purchased work, liked, or commented on anything I’ve made or posted. Even to those who only read these newsletters, thank you for spending your precious time reading and even more so when sharing with those you care about. I am trying to be better about responding to likes, comments and messages (I’ve even hired someone to try and help on that front) but I know there’s more that can be done, so in the meantime I will use part of this space to specifically say: “Thank you.”

In case you didn’t know, there is a group on Facebook dedicated to my artwork. The group is filled with really good people who discuss my art, share their purchases and trades, show off work they’ve had framed and help each other out in acquiring long lost works of mine. I didn’t create the group, several “fans” did ( I always find the word awkward). I’m not super active as much as I’d like to be, but am trying better to pop in more often with live video updates and special releases for the members of the group. Check it out if you’re interested!

New Gig Poster: Dave Matthews Band at Alpine Valley.

Always great to make a new poster for Dave Matthews Band, I’m really happy with how this one turned out.

The goal for this poster was a focus on a natural scene and a single individual moment. In this case, featuring the white-tailed deer odocoileus virginianus, the official state “wildlife animal” of Wisconsin (the official state animal is the American badger taxidea taxus). I wanted to capture the point at which the viewer’s eyes lock on those of the deer, in its natural habit, and push an element of the supernatural in this brief interlude. I’m pleased with the result.

There has been overwhelming support for this poster, probably the most for any gig poster of mine to date! My artist variant copies come in two colorways: “Nocturne” in moody blues, and “Midnight” in deep purples. Both print colorways feature two metallic inks: metallic silver in the border and metallic gold for the type. The prints come available on Cougar natural paper stock as well as holographic rainbow foil. The posters were printed by Lady Lazarus out of Houston, who have once again done an excellent job.

The posters go on sale in my online shop this coming Wednesday, July 13 at a random time. As always, be sure to be signed up to my newsletter to get the exact drop time. Thanks as always for your support, please give me a few weeks to get these shipped out as I’m also working feverishly to prep for San Diego Comic-Con, which comes in less than two weeks! New Primus Gig Poster!

New Primus!

Maybe my favorite poster to date. I know I often say “I had an absolute blast working on this one” but this one truly was a total joy, and fun to push in a more natural direction. When I say ‘natural direction’ I mean that I pivoted away from my usual: a heavy focus on the technical setup of designing art for screenprint. Instead, this time I played with a new setup where I was able to focus more purely on just the art side of things. I’m extremely happy with the result.

I do have to give special attention to Isaac and Aleisha at Lady Lazarus for doing more of the heavy lifting on file setup than usual to make this pivot possible. I try to make my files as printer-friendly as possible (not always a victory) but on this one, I left more of the technical to them and they really made the final print sing.

The poster is for last Tuesday’s sold out show at the Beacon Theater in New York City (oh how I miss you sometimes, NYC). For Primus’ “Tribute to Kings” Tour, they’ve been playing Rush’s “A Farewell to Kings” album in its entirety. While AFtK definitely has a different vibe than other Rush albums, I couldn’t help but push the envelope in terms of visual madness as tribute to both bands.

I have a stack of the show copies available for sale as well as very limited quantities in two artist variant colorways: “Ice” (blues) and “Fire” (reds, natch). The foils in the variant colorways turned out extremely well. I used a white base for the main image with strategic cutouts for the foil to pop through. I built the white base into a “marbleized” pattern over the foil which gives the final foil a lava foil look. Extremely happy with the result.

Newsletter subscribers get the exact drop time emailed to them in advance, I will warn that there has been MASSIVE interest in these, and there are quite limited quantities. Keep in mind that there are far more interested buyers than prints, so there are limits of no more than one kind of each print per person. No doubles of any single print available: orders of duplicates will be cancelled.
